Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a type of surgery that decompresses the spinal cord or roots of the neck. Access is gained via an incision in the anterior side of the neck, and subsequently, the removal of the affected disc or bone causing a compression, fused afterwards with vertebrae. Usually, ACDF Surgery is done by placing a bone graft or cage device between the vertebrae to promote bone growth and stabilization. Indications for this kind of surgery include pain, numbness, weakness, and others due cervical disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease, with the aim of improve an individual's quality of life.
